When asked about what Danny loved most about being a specialist, he replied, "I aim to assist the entire family, not just one aspect of their financial needs. By addressing their insurance, pension, and retirement planning, I want to be the person they think of for all these services. This approach ensures that their children will also become my clients. My goal is to be their one-stop shop for financial solutions."
We asked Danny to share his top strategies and advice for agents that may be considering becoming a specialist:
"To become a specialist, you need to be open-minded and remember not to stop what you're currently doing, whether it's mortgage protection or a final expense. You need to keep the money coming in while you are learning. Working with a specialist would be helpful to improve your handling of various cases."
"A good strategy is to start with your existing customers and clients in your warm market. When it's time for a review, could you include the specialist? They can guide you on which questions to ask, allowing you to learn from their expertise. Once you gain confidence and understanding from these experiences, you can consider investing in purchasing leads in that field."
"As an agent, if you want to assist your clients (and/or refer them to specialists) effectively, it's essential to understand the terms and language they use. This understanding is crucial when discussing their pension, 401(k), 403(b) plans, or annuities. Familiarity with basic terms enables you to communicate effectively. Also, being able to help you secure the business you've sold by quickly addressing questions that can benefit you, your client, and the specialist.
Danny's desire to grow his knowledge as a specialist while helping his clients has lead him to attend multiple RSUs over the years. Danny says, "In this industry, there are numerous factors to consider when assisting a family with retirement planning, and you will never know everything. However, educating yourself to stay continually abreast of industry developments is crucial."
