10 Years of Equis: Michael Coe Reflects on Planting His Flag in 2015

As Equis marks its 10-year anniversary, we’re taking time to spotlight the agents who have been with us since the very beginning. These are the people who planted their flags at Equis in 2015, believed in the vision, and continue to build with us today.
Michael Coe is one of those original agents. Having worked with Barry Clarkson, Rob Jones, and Bill Martin before, Mike already trusted their leadership and knew success would follow.
“I remember like it was yesterday,” Mike shares. “One of the biggest things that stood out to me at Equis was simple—you got to keep the money you earned. No fees attached. Equis is honored to pay you.”
The early days were filled with both challenges and excitement. Mike recalled waiting weeks for applications to be approved and traveling from Ohio to North Carolina to film some of the very first training videos for the website. He even remembers the moment the name Equis was chosen.
“It was originally going to be something else,” Mike recalls, “but then someone said, ‘How about Equis?’ and we all said YES—that sounds great.”
Today, Mike looks back with gratitude. The core values of Equis aren’t just business principles for him, they are the standards he lives by daily. His advice to new agents is clear:
“Jump on the train now. Plug into the meetings, the training, and the information. Whether you’re full-time or part-time, there’s so much opportunity here. I remember Rob always saying, if people knew what they had their hands on, they would go at it 110%.”
Mike’s only regret is not starting in the insurance industry sooner. But one thing he knows for certain—choosing Equis was the best move he ever made.
