In Search of a New Beginning


Carlos’ journey began in April 2016 when he, his wife Adriana, and their two young children left Brazil in search of a better life. "We came to the United States wanting a promising future for our kids," he recalls. Though educated and running a small marketing agency in Brazil, the political and economic landscape made it nearly impossible to achieve their goals. "A socialist State flooded with corruption and inefficiency held our country back for generations, making it very difficult for us to accomplish our professional and personal goals."


With a deep belief that the U.S. would provide a path to the future they longed for, Carlos took the leap. "I believed and felt in my gut that the U.S. would give me that opportunity. I just wanted a shot. We took that shot in 2016."


Struggles and Setbacks


However, the road to opportunity wasn’t without its challenges. The first three years in the U.S. were filled with jobs that barely made ends meet. In 2019, Carlos faced a turning point when he left a stable job due to unethical practices in the leadership, choosing instead to drive for Uber to support his family. "I couldn’t stay another day in that environment, so I walked away from a $60k salary and became an Uber driver."


For three months, Carlos drove day and night, seeking his next big opportunity. That chance came in the form of a ZipRecruiter ad for Equis Financial. Intrigued and hopeful, Carlos signed up for his life insurance license, passed the test, and attended his first conference the very next day. "I felt I had landed on something special, with special, ethical people."


Overcoming the Odds



Carlos’ determination was clear, but the journey ahead wasn’t easy. "Being a foreign national whose native language was Portuguese, not English, certainly didn’t make it easier for me on the phone. I wondered… why did I get into something where dialing was such a major aspect?"


Despite the fear and initial failures—going 0 for 5 in his first three days in the field—Carlos pushed forward. Thanks to the guidance and training from Equis, including a timely Bootcamp that helped him refine his approach, he sold his first two policies the next day. "Since day one, I’ve been helped by amazing people at Equis."


A Mission of Service


Now, five years later, Carlos is one of Equis Financial’s top producers, proudly wearing the Equis Blue. His journey has not just been professional, but deeply personal and spiritual as well. "I have made it my life mission in the U.S. to be in service to others. I have been given so much by God and Life itself, and I give back every day, giving all I’ve got to everyone I serve."
