When Equis Financial first opened its doors in October of 2015, industry leaders saw something special taking shape—an opportunity to build a company that would not just participate in the insurance industry, but transform it. Among those early visionaries was Jerrod Ewing, President of PSI Groups and Integrity Managing Partner.

Jerrod still remembers the exact day he made the decision to stake his flag with Equis—February 6, 2016.

At the time, the industry looked very different. Technology was behind, systems were outdated, and not many companies were focused on moving things forward. But Equis had a different vision — one built on innovation and efficiency from day one.

“Equis’ focus was advancing the technology and advancing the industry,” Jerrod said. “It was a great feeling to be part of a company that stepped ahead of everyone else.”

Those early days were full of big ideas and long hours — a small group of people determined to build something better. One memory that stands out to Jerrod happened at one of the first managers’ meetings in the mountains of Virginia.

“We went up there to dream and build what Equis was going to look like in the future,” he remembered. “I can still picture sitting on the edge of a mountain at Bold Rock, in rocking chairs by a fire pit, sitting next to Barry and just talking. That might’ve been the turning point of Equis.”

From those conversations came a company that not only redefined how insurance agents could grow, but gave leaders like Jerrod the chance to build businesses that would last. Through the years, Jerrod’s team at PSI Groups has grown and evolved — and eventually became an Integrity Company, partnering with one of the largest and most innovative organizations in the world.

“Equis allowed me to build a business and sell a business to the largest company in the world,” Jerrod said. “It never would’ve been possible without Barry leading the way and Equis pulling me with them.”

When asked which of Equis’ core values he connects with most, Jerrod doesn’t hesitate. “I don’t think there’s anything that matters as much as toughness. If you can maintain that, all the other values fall in place. You have to be tough to stick it out when business gets hard.”

And for those just getting started with Equis today, his advice is simple: “Don’t make it so hard on yourself. Ask questions and execute the answers — but don’t overthink the process. It’s a simple business if you can keep your focus.”

Now a decade later, Jerrod’s story is proof of what can happen when you’re willing to bet big on the right opportunity — and then have the toughness to see it through.
